As some of our volunteers like me have not been able to visit their schools we have been blessed with the services of two very dear Township Tour guides. I have therefore taken over the responsibility of liaising with the teachers to see if they have enough e’Pap for the next couple of weeks and putting together a delivery list for Vellem.

As a result I often chat to the teachers about other things besides their need for the week e.g. about a family member who has died of Covid, a burglary due to youngsters breaking into the school because they are hungry, about how they have fed hundreds of children in cold and rainy weather, of the joy they receive from serving their community. The list goes on and on. Very often of an evening I receive a little picture and message wishing me a good night and God bless. We have shared deep and meaning full things in short messages including one principal who shared with me how scared she was to have her Covid jab. When I enquired a couple of nights later how she was, she was so grateful that I had taken the trouble to care to ask.

We have been blessed with donations of dozens of beanies and jerseys during these cold days and we have been able to get these out to the little ones who are cold. What joy to receive the photos of warm heads and bodies.

One of the other joys had been chatting briefly to volunteers from a distance and with masks on as they pop in to collect their e’Pap.

So although things have changed in so many ways, the heart of our Feeding Project has remained and will continue to remain strong because it is based on love. We have been blessed in countless ways and I can only thank our Heavenly Father who has provided for us in these tough times by using the hands and feet of people around us.

We continue to take one day at a time and do the best we can under the circumstances.
